Hanson and her party is campaigning for the removal of the full-face veil from Australia and her action was deemed to be 'ridiculing a community'.
She also received caution from government minister George Brandis, who condemned her stunt.
"To ridicule that community, to drive it into a corner, to mock its religious garments, is an appalling thing to do and I would ask you reflect on what you have done," said Brandis, who also happens to be Australia's attorney-general.
"No, Senator Hanson, we will not ban the burka," he said.
Labor Party Senator Penny Wong also condemned the act.
"It is one thing to wear religious dress as a sincere act of faith, there is another to wear it as a stunt here in the chamber," Wong said.
Hanson however is no stranger to controversy.
Two months ago she kicked up another controversy after stating that students with autism should be removed from classrooms.
