Governance/Geopolitics Cyprus: UN envoy welcomes Turkish Cypriot leader’s commitment to negotiations

New York, Apr 28 (JEN): The Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, has spoken with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, according to the United Nations Good Offices Mission.
In a readout of the two officials’ phone conversation released on Sunday, the Mission said Eide congratulated Akinci on his new role and “welcomed his commitment to resuming negotiations as soon as possible.”
The Special Adviser will return to Cyprus from 4 to 8 May in order to continue preparations for the resumption of talks.
